The Ducati brand presents the first motorcycle engine with variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust sides. Named Ducati Testastretta DVT, where DVT stands for Desmodromic Variable Timing, this new Desmodromic engine is the world’s first with variable timing on both camshafts: the intake and the exhaust. It opens a new path for this type of engine.
This innovative design represents a true milestone in engineering applied to production motorcycles and underlines Ducati’s ability to develop outstanding engines and revolutionary technologies in the world of two-wheelers.
The variable timing system is capable of continuously adjusting valve operation, acting independently on the intake and exhaust camshafts. The system optimises engine performance across the entire rev range and in any operating condition, delivering maximum power, smoother power delivery, high torque and reduced fuel consumption.
In line with the upcoming Euro 4 emissions regulations, the DVT system sets a new standard by combining power, smoother delivery and usable range in a motorcycle engine.
The features of the Ducati Testastretta DVT engine:
- New DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing) system
- Bore 106 mm, stroke 67.9 mm
- Displacement 1,198 cm³
- Maximum power 160 hp at 9,500 rpm
- Maximum torque 136 Nm at 7,500 rpm
- Desmodromic valve actuation
- Dual Spark ignition (twin spark plugs)
- Anti-knock sensor
- Compliant with Euro 4 regulations
Undoubtedly a novelty that brings many opportunities for the Ducati brand, which has committed to this system and presents this new engine model.
