Barcelona, the test track for Honda
Yesterday we woke up to the news that Barcelona had been selected by Honda Motor Company Ltd to become the first European city where the new electric scooter, the EV-neo, will begin to be used.
This scooter is in the final testing phase, and the Barcelona City Council has been selected for a program to monitor its performance. The agreement includes 18 electric motorcycles, which will be delivered to the Barcelona city council for one year.
The preliminary design of the EV-neo was aimed at creating a motorcycle for everyday use, seeking a clean replacement for services such as courier and delivery services.
Both the company and the city council are enthusiastic about this agreement, as Yukitoshi Fujisaka, President of Montesa Honda, stated:
We are delighted to bring Honda’s EV technology to Europe for the first time.
Testing the EV-neo under European usage conditions is an important step in the development of our activities.
The choice of Barcelona was not random: the Catalan capital has worked for many years in support of motorcycles, and it is worth remembering that more than 80% of Spain’s motorcycle production is concentrated in Barcelona. It is also a city that is very respectful of and committed to the environment.
As for its features, the EV-neo has an electric motor of 2.8 kW and a lithium-ion battery, which gives it a range of 34 km with a charge of about 3.5 hours.
In Japan, sales through leasing have already begun since April of this year, at a price in that market equivalent to 4,000 euros.
We must realize that something has to change in the industry so that the world remains sustainable.
