Kawasaki has presented us with a new model that is highly interesting. Its results can also be seen in the MX2 category. We welcome the KX250F, a machine that will be a huge success among Motocross enthusiasts.
Building on the success of its four-stroke predecessors, the latest quarter-litre machine in the KXF range boasts features including more power, 1.7 kg less weight, and many technical, engine and design updates incorporated for the first time in a KX.
The downdraft intake tract and dual-injection setup are important advances for increasing engine power and the performance of the new 2017 model. To improve cylinder filling efficiency through the approach of the intake air, torque is increased at low and mid revs, leading to better response and faster acceleration.
With a lighter design for the innovative piston with a bridge-shaped reinforcement, the engine has its cylinder axis offset to increase mechanical efficiency. This improvement is not exclusive to the KX, but is common to Kawasaki’s high-performance machines such as the Ninja ZX-10R and the Ninja H2.
The durability and strength are an important requirement for all riders, and the 2017 KX250F adds to its reputation for reliability with an improved cylinder finish and connecting rod bearings. The cylinder honing technique creates a smooth surface, improves oil retention and reduces friction. Furthermore, the use of this surface helps reduce mechanical losses.
The total weight saving of the engine is 0.8 kg, while the chassis group saves almost 1 kg. In addition, the Showa independent-function front fork and the Uni-Trak rear suspension have been revised, providing smooth action and an improved riding feel. The new chassis, besides being narrower, weighs 90 g less than the current model thanks to the redesigned tubing, while the new alloy swingarm has been optimised with narrower side walls, reducing weight by around 190 g.
With the standard addition of three engine ignition options and the injection calibration kit for fuel, available as an original accessory, the 2017 model is a logical progression within the KX250F lineage.
