Jonathan Rea and his September between MotoGP and WSBK
Rider Jonathan Rea is going to have a very busy September, between replacing Casey Stoner in MotoGP and his races in the World Superbike Championship, he won't stop for a single week.
Rider Jonathan Rea of the World Superbike Championship made his debut this past Monday with the Honda of the Repsol team Honda of the MotoGP World Championship at the Brno circuit, where he had his first impressions with an unfamiliar bike and new tires, without a doubt a lot of work ahead, but a great experience for him.
Rea is a man with a lot of experience, and lap by lap he lowered his test lap time, and although he remained far off, his first day was not bad. Now he has to make the most of this second test at the Motorland Aragón Circuit, and thus be prepared for what will be the races, in principle Misano and we’ll see what happens with Motorland.
But Rea will not have it easy, since his replacement of Casey Stoner in MotoGP does not take him away from his obligations in the World Superbike Championship with his team Ten Kate, so he will have some quite busy weeks, a lot of stress for the rider, who will have to go back and forth between the championships.
Specifically, this is his calendar for the coming weeks:
- MotoGP Test Motorland Aragón – September 4/5
- SBK Races Germany – September 7/8/9
- MotoGP Race Misano – September 14/15/16
- SBK Races Portimao – September 21/22/23
- MotoGP Race Motorland – September 28/29/30
- SBK Races France – October 5/6/7
Without a doubt he has to give his all at every moment, although it will be very intense, he does not have even one full week of rest, and he will have to travel a lot, luckily everything is in the European area.
Rea’s statements:
For me this is a unique opportunity in life and I am grateful to Honda for inviting me to be here, although I am sorry for the guys in the team and, obviously, for Casey, since he is the one who should be here and I wish him a speedy recovery. My first impressions are that the bike is not so difficult to ride, but rather the tires and the way they work make things more complicated.
It has been hard for me to carry the bike where I want on corner exit, which is a matter of confidence because I need to load more weight on the front and I don’t yet feel confident enough. But it’s the first day and I don’t want to look for the limit or take too many risks yet. It’s great to be able to see Dani’s data and realize where I can go faster; that’s a great help. I don’t want to underestimate the work, it’s very complicated, but I need a bit more time and I don’t feel pressured; it’s a learning process with the team and the people around. It has been a fantastic day, one of the best of my life. I have been a Honda rider my whole career and being able to ride the best bike in the world, with the best technology, is like a dream come true.
