Ducati GP12 2012 an unknown, to be honest

The Ducati team is at Misano testing the new bike. A change in the chassis may help them move forward; we'll see what sensations Valentino Rossi has after this test with the new features.

Some images have come out of the first training session with the GP12 2012. These images clearly show the changes made between one bike and the other. To start with, if you look at the foot positions, the shape of a twin-spar frame can be seen in the new one.

Honestly, I can’t personally be sure what material it’s made of, since they have done it in a way that is very well concealed.

It could be painted aluminum or carbon fiber. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Ducati people wanted to make a carbon fiber version of a twin-spar, although from the images this would be a monocoque. What brings me closest to the carbon fiber idea is that no welds can be seen anywhere.

If I had to bet, I’d say it’s carbon, since the Ducati people weren’t going to give up so quickly, and Filippo Preziosi has repeatedly said he thinks the material is not the key (something I agree with), and I think he’s going to try to prove it.

Valentino crashed after completing only two laps, but apparently the crash was with the current GP11.1. Right now the Ducati mechanics and engineers are repairing it at full speed to make the most of the day, since they want to draw a clear comparison between feelings and lap times.

The one who has done more laps with this new chassis is Battaini, who is also in the training session.

GP 11.1 (I advise you to look closely at these two high-resolution photos, paying attention to the extension and anchoring of the rear subframe/seat unit and the position and anchoring of the footpegs), among other things.

GP 12.1

We leave you the high-resolution photos so you can look at them in detail.

For now nothing has been officially confirmed; we would like to wait until the team issues a press release, but all this information comes from Italian and English journalists about the new Ducati, and we’ll see what is real and what is just assumption.

I want to make it clear to our readers that we cannot guarantee the source of the images. In the afternoon some appeared on the official MotoGP website, and they don’t have sufficient resolution at all. They are already attached in the gallery.

As our friends at Motocuatro.com told us, some didn’t match up because of the blueprints.

    Saludos
