What's New for the Yamaha R1 in 2012

The Yamaha R1 gets a color refresh and some mechanical updates to make waves in 2012.

Due to the 50th anniversary of Yamaha, which we have been celebrating throughout the season, Yamaha factory has decided that now is the time to introduce new graphics on some of its motorcycles and, in some cases, more changes.

The updated motorcycles are the R1, YZF-R6, YZF-R125, FZ8 and the Aerox 50 scooter, which among other things include a design that references the bike we saw Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies ride for the first time at Assen, which in turn referenced the colors of Yamaha bikes from years ago.

The most notable updates belong to the Yamaha YZF-R1, which in addition to the new designs, will feature a seven-level traction control system for the American market and six levels for the European market, and a completely new engine map has been developed that provides much smoother power delivery.

The levers, headlights, instrument cluster, front fairing and exhaust caps have also been changed.

Little has been said about the traction control, which will apparently be the strongest point of them all, and it is the great technology of the moment. It will also feature the Yamaha D-Mode system, which controls throttle response and consists of 21 positions so the rider can find the one they like best.

Here is a wide photo gallery with the different designs; let us know what you think.
