Ducati has unveiled the Monster 1200 R at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show
At the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, not only could we see the main car launches, but motorcycles were also an important part of the presentations, such as the one that let us see the Ducati 1,200 R at the presentation of the proposals from the Volkswagen Group Night
We had already announced that Ducati was ready to present the new Monster 1200R. The event was going to take place during the Volkswagen Group Night at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and they did not miss the date. Among so many presentations, this model from the motorcycle brand of the group could be seen, which will arrive at the beginning of next year in the various European markets.
This version of the Monster is the most powerful in the range, which already includes six different models. With it, the brand has reached its peak in the naked motorcycle segment, with considerable power coming from an engine based on the Testastretta 11 powerplant, whose design has been reworked to comply with Euro 4 regulations while increasing performance and reducing emissions and fuel consumption.

This 1,200 cc Bi-Twin engine delivers 160 CV of power at 9,250 rpm and 13.5 kgm of maximum torque at 7,750 rpm. By comparison with the Monster 1,200 S, this represents a 10% increase in power and 5.5% more engine torque, confirming its status as the powerful version.
The engine is not the only thing that defines the Ducati Monster 1,200 R, since its equipment goes hand in hand with the intention of improving the design and overall performance of this model. The Ducati Safety Pack allows you to get the most out of the motorcycle with maximum safety. The Ducati Traction Control, together with the ABS and other riding assistance systems, allows you to ride this motorcycle with the safety a model of this kind deserves.
It also features three riding modes: Sport, Touring and Urban. Maximum power is obtained in the first, slightly reduced in the second, and drops to 100 CV in Urban mode, since in the city it is not considered necessary to use the engine’s full performance.
The exhaust has been redesigned and now sits higher off the ground, to enhance the sporty riding mode and prevent it from scraping the ground. In addition, its pentagonal design makes it slightly wider, by about 8 mm. The Öhlins fork uses 48 mm stanchions, compared with the one fitted to the Monster 1,200 S. The rear suspension is also improved, with better characteristics than the one fitted to the model immediately below it.
The wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP 200/55 tyres, and the brakes are by Brembo, with dual 330 mm front discs and M50 radial-mount four-piston calipers. The rear disc is 245 mm and the Bosch 9 MP ABS can be switched off. Although the weight of the exhaust and engine has increased due to the modifications made to comply with Euro 4 regulations, the total weight has been reduced by 2 kilos thanks to the use of lighter materials in other parts of the motorcycle. We will have to wait until early 2016 to have it at our disposal, but we are sure that it will be worth the wait.
