The new C Evolution from BMW opens the electric era by combining driving pleasure, excellent dynamic qualities and zero polluting emissions. In this way, BMW Motorrad once again becomes a benchmark in the two-wheeler world. In this case, the star of a genuine revolution in this segment is the C Evolution, an electric maxi-scooter derived from the C 600 Sport and C 650 GT that offers new experiences at the controls.
Its liquid-cooled engine develops 15 hp, which can be increased to 47.5 hp, with a maximum torque of 72 Nm, figures that allow a very impressive top speed for a vehicle of this type: 120 km/h (electronically limited). In addition, its acceleration from 0 to 50 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds is faster than that of other maxi-scooters with a 600 cc and larger combustion engine.
Another strong point is its range, reaching 100 kilometres, more than enough to handle daily journeys in all kinds of cities. This figure is possible thanks to the 8 kWh capacity of the air-cooled lithium-ion battery, with a recharging time of approximately four hours when connected to a standard domestic 220 V, 12 A power socket (with 16 A, the time is reduced to three hours).
The C Evolution offers four riding modes: Road, Eco Pro, Sail and Dynamic, to combine dynamism and efficiency. In Road mode, maximum acceleration is available, with 50% energy recovery when decelerating and 100% energy recovery when braking. If Eco Pro mode is activated, acceleration is limited and, therefore, energy consumption is reduced. At the same time, energy recovery is at its maximum. In Sail mode, no energy is recovered during the deceleration phase. And if the rider wants maximum sensations, they should activate Dynamic mode, with maximum acceleration and, at the same time, high energy recovery.
Taking advantage of synergies, the C Evolution uses battery modules and various electronic components from the BMW i3. It is also the first two-wheeled vehicle to meet the standards set out in ISO 26262 for functional safety and ECE-R100 for high-voltage system safety, applied by the most important car manufacturers.
The C Evolution’s chassis is designed in an original way. The injected aluminium frame, which houses the battery, supports the steel steering tube as well as the single-sided swingarm and the steel-tube subframe structure. The front suspension consists of an inverted telescopic fork and, at the rear, a telescopic leg mounted on the left side. In line with BMW Motorrad standards, the maxi-scooter includes ABS as standard, with high-performance disc brakes. Another cutting-edge safety feature is the Torque Control Assist (TCA) system, similar to the electronic stability programme used in BMW cars, which limits engine torque based on rear wheel slip. This technology is especially useful when setting off from a standstill, as it prevents the rear tyre from spinning, particularly on slippery surfaces. It also helps avoid loss of control when there is a high degree of energy recovery.
It also features a reverse gear for driving backwards, LED daytime running lights, heated grips and a large colour TFT display, which informs the rider of average consumption expressed in kWh/100 km, total consumption, battery charge level expressed in kWh, average speed, onboard network voltage, high-voltage level, and remaining range expressed in kilometres depending on the active riding mode. A bar indicator also shows energy consumption at all times, as well as energy recovery.
Available in a combination of Luminous White and Electric Green, the electric maxi-scooter from BMW Motorrad combines, like no other, high dynamism and great fun with absolute respect for the environment. Once again, the German brand goes beyond the conventional.
