Team Motorrad leaves the CEV in Navarra with a bittersweet taste

Uneven luck for the six riders of Team Motorrad. Only Xavi Forés managed to reach the podium in the weekend that marked the debut of the new Navarra circuit in the CEV

Yesterday we witnessed the debut of the Los Arcos circuit in Navarra with three major races of the Spanish Speed Championship. In them, Team Motorrad Competición, which has riders in all three categories, had mixed luck with its riders.

On a circuit new to everyone, although the riders were able to train there in mid-month, the Team has seen some great races, with training sessions in which they worked hard to get the best possible setup for the difficult weather conditions we faced, alternating wet tyres with dry ones.

Without a doubt, the best moment came in the category that opened the morning, Stock Extreme, in which Xavi Forés managed to reach the podium, although it is true that he was heavily affected by lapped riders in the final part of the race. The second place does not leave him happy at all, especially after seeing that he had the race under control from the start. For his part, his teammate Berto López, who has had the support of many fellow Cantabrians throughout the weekend, crashed on the last lap after a long battle in the race, trying to stay as high as possible in the standings.

Statements from Xavi Forés:

It has been a real shame, because after great teamwork since the training sessions we had here last week, achieving the first pole of the year, we did not account for the race situation we faced. I am very angry because I had the race well under control, but we did not account for the lapped riders, who undoubtedly decided today’s results. I hope that measures can be considered to improve track safety in this respect. I want to thank Motorrad, BMW and Michelin. Now I am thinking about Motorland, and we will go all out.

Statements from Berto López:

It has been a very complicated race, after a very good weekend for me because qualifying went well and I was very confident about everything. My mistake was changing the race tyre on the grid, and I think this may have affected me a lot, since it did not give me confidence from the first lap. I had never done this before, and even though all my technicians told me not to, I changed at the last moment. I have tried to do everything as well as I could, but perhaps due to a lack of concentration I crashed on the last lap. I want to forget this race and already think about the next one, and above all thank the team, BMW, Michelin and the fans who have shown all their support.

In the Moto2 race, Román Ramos on the Ariane fought right to the finish line to reach the podium. After suffering in training with the rain that seemed to follow the riders of this category, the race was held on dry track, and Ramos got off to a very good start. However, a mid-race failure, where he ran wide in a corner after the gearshift failed, forced him to come back in pursuit of the well-deserved podium. In the end he could not beat Noyes, and finished in fourth place just 33 thousandths behind the American.

Statements from Román Ramos:

The race has been quite good. Fourth place leaves us with a bittersweet taste, but the work line is good and we are sure that for the next race we will achieve our goals. It is a pity not to be able to give a podium to the sponsors, to Ariane, to the team for the great work they have done, and to all the people who came to see me.

As for the riders in the smallest category, Moto3, they had no luck during the weekend. All of them have progressed on a track where they had practically no references, and all three worked very hard although they had no luck in the race. The only one of the three to score points was Andrea Migno, who finished 13th, improving his grid position by five places.

For the two Spaniards, Sáez and Arenas, there were no points. Dani Sáez was caught up in Ana Carrasco’s crash on the first lap, and despite riding faster in the race than in training, he finished 18th. On the other hand, Albert Arenas had to retire after crashing 4 laps from the end.
