Summary of the 69th Milan Show (EICMA) (III)

Yamaha's new models, with the redesigned T-Max as the star of EICMA. Increased displacement and aesthetic touch-ups for a true best-seller

In our review of the highlights of the Milan Show, today we’ll look at the new products brought by the Japanese brand Yamaha, with a model that generated great anticipation.

Yamaha took advantage of EICMA to present its redesigned Tmax scooter. And all of this with an eye on its most direct rivals, the Honda Integra and the BMW C600S and C650GT. To do so, it has redesigned its flagship in several respects.

After more than 180,000 Tmax units sold, and after its last “facelift” in 2009, Yamaha had to overhaul this scooter that revolutionized its category. Its upturned tail and indicators remind us of the R1. At the front, the headlights are smaller.

It has had its displacement increased to 530cc, something many users had been requesting, as they felt it was somewhat short on power. Its new swingarm is aluminum and its secondary transmission is by toothed belt, which is a first in its segment.

All of this is aimed at achieving greater engine torque and better acceleration, reducing its weight (the dry weight is claimed to be 200 kilos) and bringing the power up to a good 46 hp. To enjoy it, we’ll still have to wait a few months, as its arrival at dealerships is expected in January.

Another new model is the new Yamaha Xenter 125cc with high wheel, a motorcycle that arrives to compete directly with the best-selling Honda Scoopy. It features progressive rear suspension and very smooth, rounded lines. And let’s not forget the redesigned YZF-R1, which incorporates as its most notable new feature a sophisticated traction control system.
