Nicky Hayden dies in Italy
Rider Nicky Hayden has died today in Italy after the accident last week while training on his bicycle.

Today we received the worst news from Italy: it was confirmed that rider Nicky Hayden had died in the hospital. During these days he fought to pull through, but in the end the American could not overcome his injuries and died at the Bufalini Hospital in Cesena.
The critical situation was known throughout the two-wheel sector, but the worst news came today from Italy, when it was confirmed that Nicky had been unable to overcome the injuries he had suffered after the impact last Wednesday, May 17, against a car while training to prepare for the event that will take place this weekend at Donington Park Circuit, Great Britain, for the World Superbike Championship.
Following the incident, Nicky was immediately taken by ambulance to a local hospital, and then transferred to Cesena, where doctors assessed surgical intervention, but the situation was too extreme and they could not perform it under those conditions. From the first night he was accompanied at all times by team members and his fiancée, Jackie.
Despite all the medical efforts and the unconditional support he has received from the world of sport, today Nicky said goodbye to us. The 2006 MotoGP world champion passed away in Italy.
Below we share the words of his brother Tommy, on behalf of the family:
On behalf of the entire Hayden family and Nicky’s fiancée, Jackie, I would like to thank everyone for all the messages of support. It has been comforting for us to see that Nicky had such a positive influence on the lives of so many people.
Although this is obviously a sad time, we want everyone to remember a happy Nicky, riding a motorcycle. As a child he dreamed of becoming a professional rider and, on top of that, he managed to become World Champion in his favorite sport. We are very proud of him. Beyond these ‘public’ memories, we have many wonderful memories of Nicky in Kentucky, in the heart of the family. We will miss him dearly.
It is also important for us to thank the hospital staff for their incredible support; they have been very kind. With the support of the authorities, we hope to have Nicky back home soon.
On behalf of the whole Highmotor Motos team, we send all our strength and encouragement to Nicky’s family and friends. Until we meet again, Kentucky Kid.
