Marc Márquez with good feelings in Moto2 Indy
During all of yesterday’s practice sessions we were able to see how Marc Márquez has his setup well dialed in for the qualifying taking place today. Everything points to a good lap time being possible and perhaps we can dare to say that if he doesn’t get pole it will be due to some kind of problem, although we can never underestimate the other riders.
Corsi appears to be the one who, at first glance, could give him the most trouble but we all know that Moto2 is a very tight category and anyone can make up lost time with a small change in the setup.
Since his first time out on track in FP1 he has shown that the bike has a good setting, and it does not require major modifications as was needed at other circuits (for example Brno), so he can focus on improving and refining small details to find those last tenths.
As he was finishing the first practice session he suffered a crash at turn 10 caused by a loss of grip at the front wheel, while he was running the hard compound. Fortunately it was a crash without major consequences, with no physical problems and no significant damage to the motorcycle.
In the second session his best lap time slipped away from him when he was coming through with the first three sectors in purple, that is, improving on the time set by Redding, but in the final sector he ran into traffic and in the end he finished 65 thousandths off the fastest lap.
Márquez’s words after yesterday’s session are as follows:
The day went quite well, simply because from the start we have been quite consistent at a good level, thanks to a good base setup. Little by little we have been improving, even though this morning we had a small crash at the end of the session.
With this asphalt, it is really difficult and you have to be very focused, because it slides a lot. As soon as you leave the racing line you can’t lean the bike until your knee touches the ground. This afternoon, despite the crash, my confidence with the bike has been very good.
Tomorrow we will have to stay calm and be very attentive because surely everyone will improve, since the grip of the track is increasing little by little, and this will make the setup change a bit and the lap times will be faster.
