Lorenzo and Spies arrive very strong to MotoGP in Qatar
Yamaha Factory Racing riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies finished yesterday the MotoGP World Championship pre-season test at the Jerez circuit, where both achieved a great pace and got to the front.
Yesterday the Yamaha Factory Racing team brought the pre-season test of the 2012 MotoGP World Championship to an end with the last day of IRTA testing at the Jerez circuit, where its riders, Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies played a major role, especially the Mallorcan, who was always in the leading group and showed great pace and a lot of consistency.
The 99 dominated the last day of testing and up until the final 15 minutes, when Casey Stoner overtook him. However, without a doubt, considering race simulation pace and laps in runs, Lorenzo was the best, setting a pace of 1:39, which is very interesting ahead of the first race in Qatar.
For his part, Ben Spies did not fall behind. He worked hard during these three days and, in this final test, completed 61 laps of the Andalusian track, looking for the most suitable improvements for his YZR-M1, finishing behind the three men who dominated the pre-season: Stoner, Lorenzo and Pedrosa. The 11 also carried out a race simulation, from which he drew good conclusions and he is satisfied, both him and the team.
The moment of truth has arrived, Qatar, April 8th.
Statements from Jorge Lorenzo:
I am really happy, because this morning we tried to do a good lap with new tyres, setting a 1:38.9, which was a good time. In the afternoon we tested a race simulation, which went really well.
Overall I am very happy, and not only me: Ben has also been very close, and Cal and Andrea too. We need to improve our braking, so we can gain a few tenths, which would be very useful.
