Rider Casey Stoner has spent this week testing the Honda machine at the Motegi Circuit in Japan, so the two-time MotoGP World Champion continues in his role as test rider and development rider for the Japanese machine.
For the Australian, it is the first time since October of last year that he has ridden a MotoGP bike, starting action last Tuesday morning with two more days ahead on the Japanese track. Stoner found good weather conditions on this occasion, and the intense test programme came to a close on Wednesday afternoon after two days.
The former world championship rider was riding the Honda RC213V 2015 with Bridgestone tyres (current specification) and trying out various items, including engine development and different setups. He also spent time with the Michelin 2016 tyres.
Stoner’s statements after the tests:
I needed a bit of time to get used to riding the bike again after a year without doing it! But everything seemed to be going well, I got back into the rhythm very quickly, and we were able to carry out the test programme that HRC had planned.
The first day went quite well. I tried Marc’s and Dani’s setups on the 2015 prototype and analysed them one by one; we found some interesting differences and useful data. We also worked a little on engine development and on some other new components that Honda brought for this test. Today we spent some time with the Michelin tyres for 2016. All in all, a very positive two-day test in which we were able to complete many laps.
