Carmelo Morales wins the Stock Extreme CEV race at Motorland
Rider Carmelo Morales has taken the Stock Extreme victory at Motorland Aragón Circuit, with Barragán 2nd and Del Amor 3rd.
Rider Carmelo Morales has taken the Stock Extreme victory at the third round of the Spanish Speed Championship season at Motorland Aragón Circuit. The JJHK T-Shirt Laglisse rider set a blistering pace over the final five laps, when he passed Santi Barragán.
The start was very good for Adrián Bonastre, but the man from Suzuki pushed too hard trying to break away and went down on the first lap. Fortunately, he was able to rejoin the race and finished in 13th place, so well done. At that point Santi Barragán was taking control of the race and imposing his steady pace, while behind there was a truly interesting battle between Carmelo Morales, Javi del Amor and Kyle Smith. The three riders had several heart-stopping laps, but in the end the pole sitter, number 31, took command of the group and started attacking the Kawasaki Palmeto PLR rider, gradually leaving Del Amor behind.
Lap by lap Morales closed in on Barragán until he caught the race leader. At that point he hung back, studying him and watching his lines through corners, straights and everything, so he would be ready for those final laps. With five laps to go he launched his attack for the lead and broke away from the field, finally leaving the Kawasaki Palmeto rider more than 3 seconds behind. The Kawasaki rider gave everything, but today Morales was simply too strong.
So victory for Morales, who is now the championship leader, with Barragán 2nd on the day and Del Amor 3rd, completing the CEV Stock Extreme podium at Motorland Aragón. Antonio Alarcos was the best private entrant, finishing 7th, just behind Ferrer’s spectacular Ducati Panigale.
The bad luck of the day belonged to Xavi Forés, who suffered mechanical problems on the warm-up lap and had to start from the pit lane with the BMW. It’s a shame, because the number 12 had the pace for a lot more and would have caused trouble at the front.
Great race at Motorland.
