Morales, Hernández and Guevara take the Motorland warm-up

The Spanish Speed Championship kicked off Sunday’s action at the Motorland Aragón Circuit with warm-ups for all categories. Stock Extreme, Moto2 and Moto3 went out in that order, starting with the senior CEV class. Carmelo Morales dominated with a lap time of 1:53.463 after seven flat-out laps, setting himself up as the clear favourite for the race.

Behind Morales, Xavi Forés posted the second-best time. The driver from BMW came within a second of the JHK T-Shirt Laglisse rider, so the Stock grid promises to be close. In the top five, Santi Barragán (3rd), Javi del Amor (4th) and Kyle Smith (5th) completed the order.

In Moto2, the fastest was Santi Hernández, Yonny’s brother. He comes to this circuit eager to perform and will be fighting for the front, so watch out for him, as he starts from the front row. His time of 1:56.024 was just 54 thousandths quicker than Alejandro Mariñelarena. Third was current Spanish champion in the category, Jordi Torres, while Jesko Raffin and Román Ramos rounded out the top five of this warm-up.

In Moto3, pole-sitter Juanfran Guevara was the quickest with a time of 2:02.454, just ahead of Álex Márquez, who suffered a crash whose consequences we don’t yet know. He was holding his shoulder, but we hope it’s nothing serious and that he can start the race at 13:00. In third place was Albert Arenas, while Julián Miralles finished fourth and Luca Amato fifth.
