Yonny Hernández with possible sponsorship problems in MotoGP
Rider Yonny Hernández could be left out of MotoGP; apparently the lack of sponsors is taking its toll on the Colombian, who keeps searching and relying on his team BQR.
Today we received bad news from Colombia: it seems that Yonny Hernández‘s place in the MotoGP World Championship is not fully secured. Undoubtedly, the sponsorship problem is haunting the Colombian, who would see this great leap in his racing career fall through. It is not confirmed, and for now the 68 appears on the provisional lists of the premier class.
The press in his country, specifically ElColombiano.com, is commenting on Yonny’s situation, including statements from the MotoGP rider himself, who finds himself in a difficult position, as he expresses in this interview.
Hernández’s statements:
I have prepared to become world champion, but…
I haven’t been lucky in that sense. I am an athlete with great achievements in Europe, and so far I haven’t received a single peso of support.
Apparently, it is his family who has gambled their savings on their son and taken on the great risk, and Yonny himself comments that his family has hit rock bottom.
The truth is, my family already hit rock bottom. They only have debts from supporting me, and my only path is for a private company or the State to back me so I can fulfill the dream of every athlete: being at the highest event in their discipline.
In principle, it is said that the jump in category will cost the Colombian at least 250,000 euros, plus housing in Madrid, food, and all the expenses that keep coming up. So it is a considerable amount, and it is causing all these problems for the 68, and could leave him out of his dream of racing in MotoGP with Rossi, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Stoner and company.
Ours has not been easy. Even many Hispanics have helped us; some give us 1,000 or 3,000 euros to survive. We have to cook and do the housework. But I know that whoever wants to get ahead has to make sacrifices.
The best part is that Yonny has assured the press of his country that he will not give up, that he will keep fighting and searching, and that he trusts his team BQR to have a good season in MotoGP. He also, of course, thanks all the affection and trust that both the director of Team BQR, Raúl Romero, and everyone else has shown him.
I think the merits are clear. It’s not for nothing that the director of the BQR team, Raúl Romero, is taking me to the GP. I just need the push, because I have the conditions.
We wish Yonny the best, and we hope to see him in MotoGP without problems.
