Toni Bou and Miquel Gelabert triumph at the 2018 X-Trial Trial des Nations

Yesterday the X-Trial des Nations was held at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice, France, where Toni Bou and Miquel Gelabert won the title of this edition, so expectations were at their peak, especially considering that Bou was not in his best physical condition.

Both riders represented Spain in this competition, and once again they were the best, earning Spain its 12th X-Trial des Nations title. After the first pass through the six sections (each rider only completed three), Bou and Gelabert had accumulated just 1 penalty point, allowing them to advance to the next phase as leaders.

In the second round, the Spanish team, with mistakes from both riders, was overtaken by the French, who scored 5 points fewer than Bou and Gelabert (10p). Great Britain followed with 22 points, Italy with 35 and Germany with 55.

In the grand final between Spain and France, with the points accumulated from the first two rounds, the rider from Repsol Honda Team and his Spanish teammate gave their all and committed only 6 penalty points, which compared to the French team’s 21 secured them the gold medal.

With this title, Spain now has its 12th X-Trial des Nations, and it is the seventh medal for the Repsol Honda Team rider, Toni Bou.

It is rewarding to end the season with a victory like this one, because the French team did not make it easy for us. In the second round we made some mistakes, but in the final we were able to make the difference. I congratulate Miquel because he rode very well and handled the pressure very well.
