Riders Marc Márquez and Álex Márquez have enjoyed a magical weekend at home, in their homeland of Cervera, where their neighbours, relatives and motorcycle fans have welcomed them as great champions: the first for being crowned MotoGP World Champion in 2013, and the second for becoming the Moto3 Rookie of the Year. The Márquez brothers are therefore dominating in both categories in a special year for them.
As already happened in 2010 with the 125cc World Champion title and last year with the Moto2 title, the followers of this motorcycling genius who made his World Championship debut with Repsol in 2008 have rallied to congratulate their most international neighbour. Accompanied by his brother Álex, Moto3 Rookie of the Year, Márquez held a press conference to attend to the media, before enjoying a massive parade through the main streets of Cervera in an open-top coach.
The street party ended on a stage from which the Márquez brothers were able to address all their loyal supporters. After completing a season full of success, which led him to be crowned MotoGP World Champion in his debut year, Marc was the great host of a celebration in which he never stopped thanking his team, the authorities and especially the fans for their unconditional support in a historic season.
Statements from Marc Márquez:
I am very happy to have been able to celebrate the title here, in my town, with all these loyal fans who have come to support me, even in the rain or snow. It is super nice and an honour for a rider to receive all this affection from your fans. It is clear that a day like this is necessary for everyone. A title like this has to be celebrated properly, because it always costs a lot to achieve and it is also a little bit theirs. I am very grateful for the support they give me; at every circuit I see more and more people with flags and shirts with the number 93, and that makes me very happy. I also want to thank my team, who could not miss this party and who have made a year like this possible.
Statements from Álex Márquez:
Today has been a very special day; we have felt very loved. Personally, I have really felt the support of the people of Cervera and of everyone who came from outside; there were a huge number of people in the street despite the bad weather. All these shows of affection are a source of pride, they push you to fight a little harder every day and they make today unforgettable. After the celebration, it is time to digest it, rest a little and already think about next year.
