Simón and Viñales with good feelings and eager for Jerez
The Avintia Racing riders, Julián Simón and Maverick Viñales, yesterday completed the IRTA test at the Cheste Circuit with good feelings and a strong desire to get to Jerez and keep going there.
The riders of the Team Avintia Racing have shown great strength in this first contact with their Moto2 and Moto3 machines respectively. Without doubt, they are two riders who will be up at the front, giving a hard time to the rest, as Julián Simón and Maverick Viñales have taken a giant step in the IRTA tests at the Cheste Circuit.
Three very intense days for the team and for Simón and Viñales, even though the cold has bothered them quite a bit, especially in the first two sessions. Nevertheless, both have managed to complete the program planned for these official pre-season training sessions, focused above all on adapting to their respective machines for the upcoming 2012 season, and on fine-tuning ahead of the second test at Jerez.
With the Moto3, the work has focused mainly on different lines with the engine, while with the Moto2 they have concentrated more on the chassis, so that Simón feels as comfortable as possible with his FTR. But they are winning riders, and they have not given up on showing their level and quality, always being in the top positions during the sessions.
Statements from Maverick Viñales (1:41.02):
Three days in which we worked a lot on different aspects and were able to make significant progress. We have been fine-tuning the chassis until we achieved a very effective setup for this track.
We also worked on the engine and, although we achieved improvements, we still need to move forward a little more. But well, this has only just begun and I’m sure it will provide us with a great deal of data.
Here we have been very competitive and I’m already looking forward to the Jerez sessions. There we will have to start almost from scratch and look for a good setup again. If we manage it, we will have taken a great step, because Jerez is a very complete circuit and, if you go well there, you have a lot of work done.
Statements from Julián Simón (1:36.08):
It has been a great test that allowed me to get to know the whole Avintia Racing team and my new bike much better. It was cold, but the good weather let me do many laps and keep working on the bike to set it up to my liking.
I’ve had very positive feelings overall and I felt very good, for example, under braking. Obviously there is still a lot to do, but I am very happy with how these three days have gone and very satisfied with the way the team has worked. They welcomed me with great warmth and spared no effort to make me feel comfortable on the bike. Now comes Jerez, a very complete and faster circuit, where I hope to keep progressing in my adaptation to the FTR.
Now, on to Jerez.
