Sant Fruitós de Bages pays tribute to Carlos Checa

Last Friday, June 3, we had the opportunity to attend a great moment for Carlos Checa. The Catalan rider received a lovely tribute at his home, in his hometown, his beloved Sant Fruitós de Bages, attended by the media, family, friends, teammates, public figures, among others.

Carlos Checa has carried the name of his beloved hometown around the world, whether in the World Motorcycle Championship or the Superbike Championship and the rest of the competitions. Without a doubt, he is a true standard-bearer of the Catalan town of Sant Fruitós de Bages, which is why they wanted to pay tribute to his career and thank him for all the affection shown.

So last week everyone gathered at the bull on the grill to pay a special tribute, as well as to unveil the commemorative sculpture for Checa in the town.

The event began with a walk through the rider’s entire career, from its beginnings through the World Motorcycle Championship, and finally reaching the present day with his double win at Miller Motorsport Park in the World Superbike Championship.

In each of the phases, the people who marked that era took to the stage. Among them we saw the people from the town who helped him in his early days, then Carmelo Ezpeleta, and finally a reunion with Marc Coma, Álex Crivillé, or Karlos Arguiñano, among others.

At last came the great moment: it was time to unveil the sculpture, a beautiful bronze piece that perfectly represents Carlos Checa. The resemblance is truly striking; the sculptor has managed to portray our number 7 without any problems.

After these very emotional moments, the citizens were able to enjoy a popular butifarrada to close the celebration for their great rider, Carlos Checa.

It was a pleasure to attend this emotional, fun, and affectionate event from Sant Fruitós de Bages to Checa, and from Checa to his hometown.

Don’t miss the gallery.
