San Carlo Honda Gresini will seek glory at Misano
After the setback at Indianapolis, the San Carlo Honda Gresini MotoGP team arrives at Misano intent on making the most of racing at home, with Marco Simoncelli highly motivated and with Hiroshi Aoyama eager to keep improving on track.
This weekend brings the Misano round, and for the Gresini team there could be no better place to make amends for the poor results at Indianapolis. A circuit located just a few kilometres from Simoncelli’s own home.
After the podium at Brno, nothing pointed to the disaster Indianapolis would be in Super Sic’s progression. The only thing they take away from the whole of last weekend is the information gathered on the difficulties encountered, which will help them solve problems in the future if necessary.
Misano is not exactly Marco’s favourite circuit, but there he will have the support of his entire family and friends. Hiroshi Aoyama will arrive with particular momentum due to the good result achieved at Indianapolis, and he is sure to improve for the final races of the championship.
Pay attention to the statements from the riders and the team director:
Marco Simoncelli (#58):
Indianapolis was a tough weekend. I was enthusiastic after the warm-up, but it turned out that the improvements we had achieved were due to the lower temperature there was during it.
With the track at around 50 ºC for the race it was a complete disaster. I enjoyed myself for five laps but it wasn’t enough. It’s a shame, but I hope at Misano I can ride the way I did in those five laps for the entire race. That is my hope, for me and for my fans.
Misano has not been a good circuit for me in the past, but there is always a first time for everything. It is not one of my favourite circuits, but I have the motivation and I will give everything I have.
I live just a few kilometres from there and the atmosphere will help me.
Hiroshi Aoyama (#7):
I am not entirely satisfied with the result at Indianapolis. I am happy to have found a good feeling with the bike in the race and I also feel in very good physical shape, but it was the poor start that annoys me. I am going to try to fix this for Misano, a circuit that is stricter and more technical than Indianapolis.
I am sure we can carry my good feeling from Indianapolis over to Misano for this weekend.
I want to give the team a good result because it is their home circuit.
Fausto Gresini (Team Director, San Carlo Honda Gresini):
Misano is always a very big event for us. Our headquarters are just a few kilometres from the track and the atmosphere is always exceptional.
We are proud to organise the “Dedikato” night since we returned to this circuit with the world championship; it is our way of keeping alive the memory of Daijiro Kato, who gave us extraordinary moments, as well as supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation.
After the podium at Brno we wanted to come to Misano with another positive result behind us, but Indianapolis was a tough weekend. Marco’s front tyre only lasted five laps, but we saw his potential in that time and I am sure he will show it on Sunday.
Aoyama gained the confidence with the bike that he needed and I am sure he can fight for more in the coming stages of the season.
