Ryan Dungey wins the AMA SX round in Las Vegas

The final round of the AMA Supercross was held yesterday in Las Vegas, with Ryan Dungey as the big winner with his fourth victory of the season in this spectacular close to the championship, although without his champion on track due to injury, so without Ryan Villopoto in action.

In front of nearly 40,000 fans we saw a great round, the Sam Boyd Stadium bid farewell in grand style to this AMA SX season, which saw Mike Alessi take the holeshot followed closely by Dungey and Metcalfe, but we quickly saw the KTM rider move into first position, leaving Alessi in second place. Although Alessi couldn’t hold that position either, Metcalfe overtook him too, and then Jake Weimer stole the last podium spot from him.

On lap 6 we saw Weimer picking up the pace, passing Metcalfe to move into second position, and tried to catch the leader, Dungey. A little further back Davi Millsaps passed the third-place rider to attack Weimer, giving us a nice battle between the two for 2nd place, while Dungey kept dominating. Lap 10 was key for Millsaps and Weimer, as the Yamaha rider, after a spectacular comeback, managed to overtake Weimer and Kawasaki to take 2nd.

Dungey secured the victory with an 8-second margin over Millsaps, while Justin Brayton in a tight finish placed 3rd with his Honda. In the AMA SX overall standings, Villopoto finished 1st, Millsaps 2nd and Dungey 3rd.

In the Eastern Regional Lites round we had Justin Barcia riding with great strength, taking the holeshot and leading for all 15 laps of the race, earning his sixth win of the season. Behind him came Ken Roczen and Blake Baggett. After this race, the champion commented that next season he will race with the Team Honda Muscle Milk, and we will see this on October 20 at this same venue.

In the Western Regional Lites round, the best was Eli Tomac, who got the holeshot ahead of Martin Davalos and Jason Anderson. On lap 3, Anderson moved into third position, passing Davalos, but moments later they swapped again due to a mistake by Anderson. Coming through behind was Dean Wilson, who moved into third place, passing Davalos on lap 5, and then managed to take second. Wil Hahn also picked up the pace and finished 3rd after a great final stretch in Las Vegas.
