Rossi draws first blood at Laguna Seca and dominates free practice
The MotoGP Grand Prix of Laguna Seca got underway with the domination of Valentino Rossi in the first practice session on Friday. The Italian set a 1:21.981, a remarkable time considering it was only free practice.
Moreover, the session was one of the most exciting, since the world champion waited until the very last moment to make his decisive push and snatch the position from his teammate, Jorge Lorenzo, who in the end finished just 0.112s behind.
Therefore, the official Yamaha team is in the top positions, followed by Casey Stoner, who was not far behind Rossi either, just 0.189s back.
In fourth place is Dani Pedrosa, who seems fully recovered from his injuries and from the crash at Assen. We hope he has more luck at Laguna Seca and can achieve a good result to get the season back on track.
Further back, a surprising Toni Elías has positioned himself. He seems to have arrived in the USA in great form after his good performance at Assen, while Andrea Dovizioso took sixth place.
The scare came from Vermeulen, who went down at the start of the practice session. Luckily it was nothing serious, and he was able to rejoin without problems and finish in eighth position.
The riders found perfect conditions on the track, with sunshine and temperatures of 24ºC throughout the session, which allowed for good lap times for a first session.
The second free practice session will be held today at 18:55 and qualifying from 22:55 (Spanish time), so don’t miss it and enjoy one of the most spectacular Grand Prix of the calendar.
