Raúl Fernández takes pole position for the Moto2 World Championship at Sachsenring
Rider Raúl Fernández has secured pole position for the Moto2 World Championship at Sachsenring

The Moto2 World Championship was the last class to take to the Sachsenring Circuit to contest pole position for the round on the German track, so expectation was at its peak in the intermediate class of the Motorcycle World Championship.
First out were the riders who had not managed to place themselves among the best combined times from free practice, and who therefore had to go through Q1 to secure one of the four places giving access to Q2, with the fastest being Bendsneyder, Bezzechi, Canet and Arenas.
And then came the moment of truth, Q2. With 10 minutes to go, we already saw the big favourite, Remy Gardner, in first place, but the rest of the participants in the session still had plenty to say, although we saw another of the protagonists, Sam Lowes, crash.
Fabio Di Giannantonio had set a very quick time and it seemed nobody could beat the Italian’s lap, but with 2 minutes to go, Raúl Fernández flew around the German track and set an incredible time, a new record of 1:23.397, leaving DiGGIa more than three tenths behind.
So pole position goes to Raúl Fernández, a superb lap, the great rookie of the season, followed by DiGGIa and Gardner. The top 10 was completed by Bezzecchi, Vierge, Navarro, Lowes, Ogura, Bendsneyder and Canet.
On to the race.
