Philipp Ottl debuts in the Moto3 championship at CEV Jerez

We debut the Moto3 competition in the CEV with a victory for Philipp Ottl in Jerez, kicking off an exciting season.

With the Moto3 race now over, Moto3 Philipp Ottl has started this season in the best possible way. He was crowned champion in an atypical race with many crashes, where a good touch on the throttle made all the difference. We also witnessed the first victory of a Kalex-KTM in Moto3 in our championship. Honestly, it was not easy at all, as Alejandro Medina was coming on very strong from behind.

Medina therefore finished second, a rider who came from another lower-tier competition and debuted in the CEV with a podium. As he himself said at the press conference, it could not have been any better.

To complete the trio of winners, John McPhee, a rider who has consistently delivered a great race and a great weekend. It would certainly not have been fair to end the weekend any other way.

Some riders had problems, such as Maria Herrera, whose bike did not allow her to leave from the grid after setting the best time in the warm-up. After some changes she managed to start, but already a lap down, and she finished twenty-third.

Another of the CEV’s women riders was also unable to finish: the Japanese rider Yui Watanabe, who after touching wheels with Bagnaia a couple of times went down while she was having an impressive weekend. Keep a close eye on this young woman, because she will give us great surprises.

Although Ana Carrasco gave us a thrill, fighting in a group of three for fifth place, it seemed she could achieve it, but in the end her rivals fought very honorably and she finished seventh.

It went well. Last year was not as good as this one, and we have scored good points, which is great. The start went well; after the first corner I was in the lead, and then during the race it was not easy, it was very wet and slippery, but it feels great to have finished like this.

Alejandro Medina

I am very happy because I come from lower-tier championships, so arriving and finishing second is a great result. I want to thank the team that supports me so much and everyone who came to see me.

On the penultimate lap I was right behind Ottl. On the last lap, after the scare, I could no longer fight for the win, but I am very happy with second place.

John McPhee

The race was not very good; we did not have very good sensations with the bike. Fortunately I was able to close the gap and make the tyres last. Thanks to Racing Steps Foundation.
