Oliveira, Spies and Zarco the fastest in FP2 at Motorland

The Motorcycle World Championship held the second free practice session at the Motorland Aragón Circuit in the rain, so it was wet for all categories.

The Motorcycle World Championship held the second free practice session at the Motorland Aragón Circuit in the wet. This time there were no intermediate tyres: all three categories had the chance to train in the rain, so everyone was on wet tyres and out on a tricky track.

The first to go out were the Moto3 riders, who could train in the wet, as they were the only ones who did not have to do so on a fully wet track. Wet tyres and out on track again, and once more Miguel Oliveira was the best, setting a time of 2:16.726. Very good from the Portuguese rider in this FP2 and in these conditions.

Behind the 44, Danny Kent sat just 0.183s back, so everyone was very close together in this second practice session. In the top 5, Khaiuriddin was 3rd, more than two tenths behind, fourth was Cortese and 5th was Iwema. The best Spaniard in this session was Luis Salom, in 6th place.

The top 10 was Ajo in 7th, Folger 8th, Binder 9th and Amato 10th. The rest of the Spanish riders finished 13th M. Viñales, 14th Vázquez, 15th Márquez, 18th Martín, 22nd Rins, 28th Navarro, 29th I. Viñales, 31st Guevara and 34th Moncayo, who crashed in this session and had several problems during this FP2.

After the small category, it was the turn of the MotoGP riders. This time there were no excuses that the track was half dry-wet: now it was completely wet, and it was time to set up for water and get out. And so it was: in this session everyone did go out on track to ride, test and work at Motorland after an FP1 with little action on the circuit.

The fastest was Ben Spies, the Yamaha rider who surprised everyone in these conditions, setting a time of 2:00.219 and leaving second-placed Dani Pedrosa just 0.066s back, so the leading riders were very evenly matched. Behind them, in third place, was Jorge Lorenzo, more than half a second off but looking strong.

Behind the leading trio came Nicky Hayden, the dominant rider of the first session, in 4th place, a good day for the 69, who is getting better every day from his hand injury. Fifth place went to Andrea Dovizioso, followed by Bradl 6th, Crutchlow 7th, Rossi 8th, Abraham 9th and Bautista 10th.

The remaining places went to Rea 11th, De Puniet 12th, Espargaró 13th, Ellison 14th, Pasini 15th, Hernández 16th, Pirro 17th, Barberá 18th, Petrucci 19th, Salom 20th and Edwards 21st.

The Moto2 category closed out this very difficult day of training at the Motorland Aragón Circuit, with a very strong rider like Johann Zarco in the wet. Without doubt, today was the day for the experts in the wet: the Frenchman, West, Schrotter and others who get more feeling with it every day.

A session with many crashes, including those of Marc Márquez, Mika Kallio, Eric Granado, Alex De Angelis and Johann Zarco. So imagine what the track was like, and the conditions in general at this circuit. The fastest was the Frenchman Zarco, with a time of 2:07.844.

Behind Zarco, De Angelis was 0.290s back, while Luthi was 3rd, Rea 4th and Corti 5th in the top 5, already more than seven tenths off the leader in FP2. The top 10 was Andrea Iannone 6th, Julián Simón 7th, Xavier Simeon 8th, Anthony West 9th and Marcel Schrotter 10th. The best-placed Spaniard was our 60, Julito, who was the best although almost a second behind the fastest rider in this free practice.

For the rest of the Spanish riders, the final positions were Espargaró 11th, Márquez 13th, Torres 16th, Terol 19th, Rabat 23rd, Mariñelarena 24th, Pons 26th and Rosell 31st.

See you tomorrow for FP3.
