The best Freestyle riders represented their home countries in a competition for the world title. Eight national teams from four continents competed for points in the six Freestyle disciplines—Highest Air, Best Whip, Best Trick, Synchro and Race & Style—which would determine the winner of this first edition of the Freestyle of the Nations. The trophy ultimately went to the Spanish team, which won by a comfortable margin over the runners-up, the Czech Republic.

Spain took the victory in Synchro thanks to the outstanding performance of Dany Torres and Maikel Melero, who managed to beat the American team made up of Potter and Mason. In the Best Whip contest the win went to Marcelo Simoes—the Brazilian surpassed the favourites with an impressive sequence of tailwhips. Jeremy Rouanet secured second place for France.
In the Best Trick contest, Dany Torres took the win, ahead of Frenchman Jeremy Rouanet. In the Race & Style Contest, Frenchman Brice Izzo claimed victory ahead of X-Games medallist Mike Mason—the American chose the wrong racing line, which cost him a win the US team had already considered secured.
Spain was undoubtedly the best in the two freestyle events, since Maikel Melero won the first contest while Dany Torres triumphed in the second. This result gave the Spanish team made up of Dany Torres, Maikel Melero and José Miralles the victory in the first edition of the FMX of the Nations.
