Marco Simoncelli the fastest in the MotoGP Warm Up at Mugello
Rider Marco Simoncelli has set the best time in the MotoGP warm up at the Mugello circuit. The Italian posted a lap time of 1:48.430 and is shaping up as one of the favourites for the race on his home track.
Although the gaps to his rivals were small, he beat Andrea Dovizioso by just 8 thousandths, and Casey Stoner by 50 thousandths. The three riders are therefore very close in this warm up ahead of today’s race at Mugello.
Behind the Honda riders, Ben Spies was placed in fourth on the Yamaha, only 0.082 seconds slower. The winner of the Assen round therefore comes in with his batteries charged and hunting for more victories.
In fifth position was Jorge Lorenzo, the MotoGP world champion, who was also quite close to the fastest riders, 0.366 seconds behind Sic, and eager to show his pace at the Italian round.
As for Dani Pedrosa, this warm up has gone very well for him. The Catalan finished sixth, which is very good for the Honda rider who has gradually improved his feeling after such a long time away from racing.
Completing the top ten were Nicky Hayden in seventh, Colin Edwards in eighth, Valentino Rossi in ninth and Hiroshi Aoyama in tenth.
Now it’s time for the race.
