Lorenzo and Spies to continue Yamaha's MotoGP winning streak at Jerez

The Yamaha Factory Racing riders are ready for the Spanish Grand Prix at the Jerez Circuit. Both Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies arrive eager and fully charged for the second round of the season.

The Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP World Championship team arrives at the Jerez Circuit this weekend fully charged after winning the opening round in Qatar, following a great comeback by Jorge Lorenzo and an extremely interesting battle with Pedrosa and Stoner.

So now, at the first European round, the goal is to keep on that path. They know it won’t be easy, with rivals such as the Repsol riders Honda and others who may show up to make things difficult, so both Lorenzo and Spies have to push hard from the start. But it’s clear that Lorenzo is one of the big favourites. The Jerez track is one of the Mallorcan’s favourites, and he has won the last two premier-class races at this circuit, in 2010 and 2011, making him a true specialist.

For his part, Spies comes to fight for a podium, his natural position, hoping to have a trouble-free race without crashes, and of course to forget the annoying chattering that tormented him in Qatar. He needs to bounce back in Jerez, although it isn’t a track the American particularly loves: in 2010 he retired after 20 laps, and last season he crashed due to the very difficult conditions on the track.

Statements from Jorge Lorenzo:

I’m eager to return to Jerez. We were very strong here during the test and I have always had good results. The competition will be tough; I expect Casey and especially Dani to be very fast.

Our season had a perfect start in Qatar; we worked very hard to achieve that incredible victory. Now we are going to race in front of our fans and I will try to make sure we give them a good show! Let’s hope it doesn’t rain this year!

Statements from Ben Spies:

I feel good. I haven’t had great results at Jerez yet, but we did a very positive test there, so I feel confident. The Yamaha M1 is responding well at all the circuits we have visited so far.

After the difficult start in Qatar, my goal in Jerez is to start the season over again. I’m going to give it my all. We had a good weekend in Qatar, except for the race. We know our pace is strong, the bike is competitive and I’m riding well, so this should be a successful weekend.
