The Kawasaki brand has unveiled the new Kawasaki KX250 and 450 for the 2021 season. The new KX250 arrives with major improvements, and the KX 450 with small but important upgrades for the 2021 season, so expectations are high.
The Kawasaki KX250 arrives at the starting gate with the most power in its history, along with a series of “rider-focused” improvements designed to reconfirm its place as the standout motorcycle in its category. At the heart of all these improvements is a state-of-the-art engine that delivers an additional 1 kW (1.4 hp) of peak power without sacrificing torque at mid and low revs.
Equally valuable for riders is a 350 rpm increase in the rev limit, which adds to the already impressive performance of the KX250. The new upgrades for this season don’t stop there; in fact, this is exactly where they begin, with the addition of an electric starter for the first time on a KX250, as well as the adoption of a hydraulic clutch system of the same type used on the KX450.
The ability to restart quickly after a fall and the seconds saved can mean the difference between winning and losing. The quick start is just part of the reliability picture: over the course of a race, a hydraulic clutch helps ensure that none of this incredible package’s performance is lost.
In terms of design, the changes continue with a new, narrower and more ergonomic bodywork and a new combination of frame and swingarm derived from the KX450. In addition, suspension settings have been improved to better absorb impacts and aid traction, while a series of adjustments to the brake line allows for greater control. Speaking of control, the four-position handlebar option and two footpeg configurations allow riders to adapt their riding position.
Finally, the optional (accessory) Fi calibration kit for ultra-fine tuning, in addition to the three pre-set maps that are easy to swap using plug-in connectors.
Take a look.
