Jorge Prado is crowned MX2 World Champion for 2018
Prado is MX2 World Champion
The young MX2 Motocross World Championship rider, Jorge Prado, has been crowned World Champion for this 2018 season before the event in Imola, since his main rival, Pauls Jonass, will not be able to attend that round after undergoing surgery for the injury he suffered at the Turkish Grand Prix. The Galician is therefore mathematically champion.
After his fantastic results throughout the entire season, he has achieved this, but to get there, both he and his family sacrificed everything they had to fight for their dream. When KTM gave him the opportunity to move to Belgium to train as an athlete, his parents had to decide whether they would all go with him or only one of them. In the end, Jorge travelled with his father, his mother and his sister, and there they began a new life. A life that has led him to glory.
Today, at 17 years old, he is World Champion, and he is so because he has worked for it. If we look back, we see that Jorge has left his mark wherever he has been and has accumulated international titles that already foreshadowed the great future that lay ahead of him. In 2010 he became Spanish MX65 champion and, in 2011, he won the World Junior MX65 championship and the EMX65 European championship. In 2015, with a victory in Talavera de la Reina and six podiums, he claimed the EMX125 European championship. A year later he finished seventh in EMX250, stepping onto the podium five times. That same season he made the leap to the MX2 World Championship in Assen, and in the second moto in Holland he finished third.
In 2017, completing the entire season in MX2, he began to win. He reached the top step of the podium 3 times and the second step 2 times. Jorge Prado had only one goal. This year Jorge has had all of Spanish motocross on edge. Every race Sunday, fans, riders, teams, etc. have been watching him closely. In Argentina, in the first round, things did not go very well for him, but from the second round onward, he began winning motos and getting used to being on the podium.
Unlike him, who has improved steadily this year, his main rival Pauls Jonass started the season very strongly, but could not withstand the pressure from the Galician, who seized the provisional overall standings lead and held onto it until the end. With 15 victories, 13 second places, 5 thirds and a few weaker results, Jorge Prado has made history. He is Spanish and he is the new Motocross World Champion.
