Jorge Lorenzo the best on day 1 of the tyre test in Australia

The MotoGP and Moto2 World Championships are at the Phillip Island circuit for a special tyre test for both categories, so there is a lot of work with the tyres in both the top class and the intermediate class, all with the aim of ensuring that what happened in the Australian round of the 2013 season does not happen again, when the tyres forced the races to be shortened and the system to be changed.

The first day has been dominated by Jorge Lorenzo, the Mallorcan set a time of 1’29.213, completing 68 laps of the Australian track, and setting his time in the final laps, so he is very focused on the work alongside the tyre manufacturer, especially because he has not been very satisfied with them, but it seems that he is gradually getting the feeling.

In second place was Cal Crutchlow, who was returning to the scene after the announcement that Ducati would race in MotoGP under the Open regulations; the Briton finished 0.363s behind Lorenzo on this first day. Meanwhile, third place went to Valentino Rossi, who was 0.517s off his teammate’s time.

Pedrosa was fourth on this day, and was the MotoGP rider who completed the most laps on the Australian track, almost 90; he finished 0.748s behind the leader and with a lot of work behind him. Meanwhile, Dovizioso closed out the top-class positions 0.752s behind the leader.

In relation to the Moto2 riders, we saw Tito Rabat complete 100 laps of the track, working nonstop and setting a time of 1’32.316, leaving Nico Terol 2nd at 0.974s, so what Marc VDS Racing achieved today is brutal. The remaining Moto2 positions went to Kallio in 3rd and Torres in 4th.
