Jorge Lorenzo dominates the MotoGP QP at Laguna Seca and takes pole
Rider Jorge Lorenzo has taken pole position for the United States Grand Prix at the Laguna Seca circuit, the Mallorcan recovered from this morning’s crash on the American track and set a 1:21.202 to secure the front-row starting position.
The reigning MotoGP world champion showed great pace throughout the session, very consistent and with very strong lap times. To be honest, if he manages to maintain this pace over many laps tomorrow, he will be hard to follow.
It won’t be easy for him, though, with the duo of Honda, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa behind him, as they placed 2nd and 3rd, fairly close to Lorenzo’s time: Stoner was 0.072s back and Pedrosa 0.183s.
So the leading trio remains well clear of the rest, especially the Yamaha pair, which set a very good time from the first laps and then improved on it, while Stoner had problems until the end of the session, and Pedrosa could not get the most out of the soft tyres, but is going very well on the hard ones.
Rounding out the top 10 were Ben Spies 4th, Marco Simoncelli 5th, Andrea Dovizioso 6th, Valentino Rossi 7th, Héctor Barberá 8th, Nicky Hayden 9th and Cal Crutchlow 10th.
A very good result for Barberá, who was the second Ducati in the official practice sessions, setting 1:22.238, so well done to the number 8, who is celebrating his 150th GP start.
Behind them were Colin Edwards 11th, Álvaro Bautista 12th, Karel Abraham 13th, Hiroshi Aoyama 14th, Randy De Puniet 15th, Loris Capirossi 16th, Toni Elías 17th and Ben Bostrom 18th.
There were several crashes in QP, including Álvaro Bautista, Nicky Hayden, Randy De Puniet and Ben Spies, fortunately none of them with physical consequences.
Warm-up and race tomorrow.
