Jonathan Rea: "I'm really looking forward to getting out on track at Sepang"

Rider Jonathan Rea is one of the protagonists of the 2014 World Superbike Championship aboard the Honda of the Pata Honda World Superbike team, although at Donington Park he didn’t get to enjoy much, as he finished sixth in both races, with little chance of fighting with the leading group for victory on his home soil.

Fortunately, the Briton appears to have confirmed that he knows what went wrong at the British round and that he is already prepared to return to action and get back on the path to podiums and victories starting from the World Championship round at the Malaysian circuit of Sepang.

It wasn’t a perfect weekend for us. We had problems as early as Friday that we weren’t able to solve over the course of the weekend. It was very difficult to take advantage of our strengths on a track with so little grip. So all we can take away is the information we gathered and hope we can make use of it in the future.

We worked to the maximum, but we were certainly quite a distance off the winner. Now we have work ahead of us over the coming weeks, and I’m eager to get to Sepang.

Rea is one of the few riders, along with Toni Elías, who has experience at the Malaysian track, so we’ll see what they can do at the next round of the 2014 season of a World Superbike Championship that is very interesting.

I’m really looking forward to getting out on track at Sepang because it’s not only a challenge for the mechanics, but also for the riders’ performance due to the high temperatures. I had the opportunity to do a test with HRC there in December 2010 – just before the last season of the MotoGP 800s – and I really enjoyed the circuit a lot. I like the layout, it has two long straights where we’re going to need a bit more power (laughs), but on the rest of the track our bike adapts really well.
