The European Junior Cup of the Superbike World Championship remains one of the benchmarks for the promotion cups for young motorcycling talents, and last weekend we saw a new round alongside the Superbike-Supersport World Championship at Donington Park Circuit.
In the fourth race of the season we saw Javier Orellana once again, being the big winner of the event, even though the action in this round started quite chaotically with the early crash of Mika Pérez and Emanuele Pusceddu, who were out of the fight for the win.
Orellana, who started from fourth place on the grid, took advantage of this crash to move into the lead and push hard, gradually gaining distance on his rivals. Only the Frenchman Raymond was able to keep close to Javier’s pace, but he never managed to make contact with him to put up a fight.
In this way Orellana secured his third victory of the season, and strengthened his lead in the promotion cup standings. Raymond finished behind him, with Grassia closing out the podium after an intense battle for third place. Behind them, Dorian Laville, Dorren Loureiro, Alfonso Coppola and Illán Fernández completed the top 8 at the Donington race.
With this result, Orellana becomes the leader, now 27 points ahead of Grassia, the second-placed rider in the overall standings. The next European Junior Cup race will be held on June 7 at Portimao.
