Héctor Barberá undergoes surgery for compartment syndrome

The rider Héctor Barberá has been successfully operated on for compartment syndrome. After three MotoGP World Championship races with discomfort in his right forearm, Avintia Racing rider Héctor Barberá went yesterday to the Quirónsalud Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona, where they confirmed his suspicions.

In the morning he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of his right forearm under exertion and a compartment syndrome was confirmed, so yesterday afternoon it was decided to perform the corresponding surgery to resolve the ailment.

The rider was operated on by Dr. Xavier Mir. The operation lasted 70 minutes and was performed using microsurgical techniques, which released the extensor and flexor fascias of the right forearm of the Valencian rider. It was necessary to release both the muscles that flex the wrist and fingers and those that extend them, using a double surgical incision.

The Avintia Racing rider will be discharged from hospital within 24 hours (so this afternoon, if nothing unusual happens, he could be discharged and will begin rehabilitation in approximately one week). The operation has been a success and, if everything goes as planned, Héctor Barberá should be able to get back on his Ducati at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, although this is still in doubt, and it will only be known whether he will be ready to return to action and defend his lead in the Open category of the MotoGP World Championship next week.
