The Motocross World Championship held its 15th round of the 2013 season in Belgium last weekend, where we saw plenty of action and a spectacular Clement Desalle in MX1, along with bad news for fans of the discipline: Herlings’ injury in MX2.
Cairoli, who is eager to be crowned champion, won the first MX1 moto and was fighting at every part of the track, followed by Desalle 3.060s behind and with Paulin completing the podium of this first race. The top 10 was Bobryshev 4th, Van Horebeek 5th, De Dycker 6th, Strijbos 7th, Simpson 8th, Searle 9th and Leok 10th. Meanwhile, Barragán finished 16th in this first moto, showing great strength at the start but losing pace later on.
In the second moto, Desalle was the winner, leaving the Italian far behind, 0:22.296s away, so Cairoli finished 2nd and Bobryshev third, completing the top 10 with Strijbos 4th, Van Horebeek 5th, Searle 6th, Phillipaerts 7th, De Dycker 8th, Roelants 9th and Simpson 10th. The Grand Prix therefore went to Desalle, followed by Cairoli and Bobryshev. Our Barragán finished 15th overall.
The MX2 class was marked by the qualifying sessions, as reigning champion Herlings was injured in them, dislocating his left shoulder and missing Sunday’s round. With Herlings out of this event, the victory was wide open, going to Ferris in the first moto ahead of Tixier and Charlier. The top 10 of this first moto was Desprey 4th, Febvre 5th, Gajser 6th, Butrón 7th, Coldenhoff 8th, Anstie 9th and Clermont 10th.
In the second moto we saw Ferris back in first place, achieving a very positive double, followed by Coldenhoff 2nd and our Butrón 3rd. The top 10 was completed by Febvre 4th, Tixier 5th, Nicholls 6th, Charlier 7th, Ferrandis 8th, Lupino 9th and Tonkov 10th. In the combined classification of the Grand Prix, Ferris was the overall winner, followed by Tixier 2nd and Coldenhoff 3rd, while our Butrón finished 4th.
Plenty of action in Belgium.
