Camier and Lowes the fastest in SBK day 1 test in Australia

The first day of the official test for the World Superbike and Supersport Championship at Phillip Island Circuit has given us plenty of action, with Leon Camier and Sam Lowes as the fastest in both championships, and eager to keep working in the coming sessions.

leon camier test sbk

Today saw the first official test session of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island Circuit, where this championship kicks off this weekend, so there is maximum interest in the final tests before the start of the 2013 season.

This time the fastest rider was once again Leon Camier, who closed out the private test on the second day as the best. It seems the Crescent rider has improved a lot and has got the feel of his machine, setting a lap time of 1’31.243 in the second session of this first day of action at the Australian track.

The first training session had gone to Eugene Laverty with a time of 1.31.730, followed by Haslam, Giugliano, Rea and Melandri in the top 5, while the other favourites placed 7th for Tom Sykes and 12th for Carlos Checa. The second session is when we saw the participants’ lap times improve, with Camier finally the fastest with that 1.31.243, closely followed, just 0.153s behind Haslam, and 0.158s from Fabrizio in 3rd. Meanwhile, the top 5 was completed by Laverty in 4th and Melandri in 5th; while the other title favourites were placed 6th for Carlos Checa and 10th for Tom Sykes. Our bull has improved compared to the first session and is regaining its feel.

sofuoglu test

Meanwhile, the World Supersport Championship is also testing at the same track, where we were also able to see two sessions. In the morning session Sofuoglu, the current champion, was the fastest with a lap time of 1.34.523, followed by Van Der Mark 0.183s behind, Leonov, Foret and Rolfo in the top 5; our riders placed 6th for David Salom, 9th for Baldolini and 30th for Calero.

The second session went to Lowes, who returned to the track very eager and set the fastest time of the day with a 1.33.950, followed by Sofuoglu more than two tenths behind, while the top 5 was completed by Leonov, Talmacsi and Van der Mark. Meanwhile, our riders were placed 10th for Salom, 12th for Baldolini and 33rd for Calero.

More action tomorrow.
