Cairoli and Searle win the MX World Championship round in Belgium
Last Sunday the MX World Championship visited Belgium, where incredible motos were held featuring the best motocross in the world and the best riders in the world.
The Motocross World Championship continues to amaze wherever it goes, and now it was Bastogne’s turn for the Belgian Grand Prix, the eighth round of the MX1 and MX2 season. The season is moving forward, and we have a very strong leader in MX1: Tony Cairoli, who keeps adding wins and, this time, a double.
Many fans came to one of the most spectacular tracks seen so far in the MX World Championship, where they could watch two motos in each of the categories, all very interesting and with the best riders in the discipline on track, so it was pure show on the dirt.
In the MX1 category, we had the clear dominator, Cairoli, who gave no chance to anyone, while behind him there was more fun and fighting between the riders. Paulin and Desalle ultimately completed the top 3 of this first moto, with Pourcel, Boog and Philippaerts showing the world what MX is all about.
The second moto was also quite calm for the 222 of KTM. Desalle was the first to attack, but his joy didn’t last long because Cairoli came charging from behind like a whirlwind, taking 1st place and holding it until the end. Great job, Cairoli, who now has a large lead in the World Championship standings, while Pourcel and Desalle closed the top 3 of this second moto.
For our representative, Jonathan Barragán, things didn’t go very well. In the first moto he finished 13th due to a problem with his goggles; apparently sand was getting in, and of course you can’t do much like that. In the second moto he suffered a nasty crash and ended up retiring because he was having trouble breathing. Luckily, it seems everything was just a scare.
In the MX2 category, there was war once again between Tommy Searle and Jeffrey Herlings. Both shared the victories in Belgium, but it was Searle who scored more points to take the final win of the MX2 Grand Prix. In the first moto Herlings went full throttle for the win, and during the first three laps we saw an intense battle between the two, but eventually the Kawasaki rider went down and handed the victory to the KTM rider. Van Horebeek closed out the third step of the podium.
The second moto went to Searle, who wanted to bounce back from his crash in the first, and he did so in style, making no mistakes and going all out. Herlings pressed from behind but this time couldn’t match him, while Horebeek was 3rd again.
Our representative José Antonio Butrón did quite well, although he was not happy with the result. He finished the first moto in 8th and the second in 10th, so two top-ten finishes.
Great MX races.
