Álex Márquez and John Mcphee wildcards Moto3 at Catalunya
Riders Álex Márquez and John Mcphee will take part in the Catalan Grand Prix as Moto3 wildcards, so both riders will have a good opportunity to keep learning from the World Championship.
The Moto3 World Championship will welcome two young riders as wild cards for this fifth round of the season at the Circuit de Catalunya. Specifically, they are two riders from the Spanish Speed Championship, Álex Márquez and John Mcphee.
So both will be competing against the World Championship regulars, with their own infrastructure and on a track they know well. It is a great opportunity for them to gain experience in this type of event, so it is time to learn, although both riders have plenty of mileage thanks to the CEV Moto3 category.
Márquez is entered as the third rider for Estrella Galicia 0.0, with a third Suter that he wants to get the most out of, and to continue his interesting run of points scored in the races at Jerez and Estoril, where he performed very well.
For his part, Mcphee continues to improve in the CEV’s small category, Moto3, in which he will take part in the World Championship and where he feels very comfortable, putting up a strong fight at the front. In principle, the Briton is entered with the KRP Racing Steps Foundation team, with the interesting KRP M3-01, and his base is Honda NSF 250R Moto3.
The Briton already had the opportunity to race in the World Championship at the 2010 Valencia Grand Prix, riding an Aprilia RSW for the KRP team, finishing 15th at Silverstone and 14th at Valencia, scoring three points in his final overall classification.
Two wildcards who can cause problems for the regular riders. Márquez already proved this at both Jerez and Estoril, so watch out for Álex, who also just finished on the podium at Motorland Aragón CEV and will be eager to open the throttle, although he also has shoulder problems from a crash on the Aragón track.
Coming up soon: action at the Circuit de Catalunya.
