Viñales, Pedrosa and Redding top the FP3 at Montmeló

First contact session on Saturday for the riders of all three categories. Viñales, Pedrosa and Redding have achieved the best time while seeking the best setup for qualifying.

Taking advantage of the lower track temperature in the morning, the riders of Moto3, MotoGP and Moto2 have taken things a bit more calmly than yesterday. Almost all have been testing different configurations for qualifying, which is where they will really fight for pole.

In the small category, the fastest was the rider from Roses, Maverick Viñales, who came out on top with a time of 1:52.494. In second place was the Malaysian rider Khairuddin, over seven tenths behind, as was Danny Kent. Right behind them was the world championship leader, Sandro Cortese, who suffered a very hard crash in the final minutes. Masbou was 5th.

As for the Spanish riders, besides Maverick’s 1st place, Alex Rins was 6th, Salom 7th (who received a terrible scolding from Louis Rossi and Héctor Faubel while passing the line), 10th Alex Márquez, 11th Héctor Faubel, 20th Alberto Moncayo, 21st Efrén Vázquez, 22nd Isaac Viñales, 26th Adrián Martin and 30th Iván Moreno.

In MotoGP, the fastest was Dani Pedrosa. The Spaniard came out on top in the final minutes by fitting a soft tyre and beating the time of his teammate Casey Stoner, who had only ridden on the hard tyre. Behind the two of them were two satellite bikes, the Yamaha Tech3 of Andrea Dovizioso and the Pramac Ducati of Héctor Barberá. Hayden and Lorenzo finished just behind.

For the rest of the Spanish riders, there were many difficulties, as the conditions were not the same as those they enjoyed yesterday. After Pedrosa 1st, Barberá 4th and Lorenzo 6th, Álvaro Bautista placed 10th. Aleix Espargaró was the best of the CRT bikes with his 12th place, ahead of even Abraham’s Ducati. Iván Silva finished 21st, after suffering an engine failure during the session.

The last category to take to the track for the free practice was Moto2, where Scott Redding was the fastest with a time of 1:46.750. Behind him was Pol Espargaró in 2nd place and Krummenacher 3rd. The Italian Iannone finished ahead of the winner of the French Grand Prix, the Swiss Thomas Luthi.

It was not a good session for our riders, since after the good 2nd time of Polyccio, our riders could not stand out much. The next best was Marc Márquez, who despite his problems stemming from the crash he suffered in France finished 9th. Tito Rabat 12th, Toni Elías 13th and Jordi Torres 16th, who is doing very well with a bike he barely knows, beating Smith, his teammate. 18th was Julián Simón, who suffered a crash with 15 minutes left to go. Nico Terol was 20th, Ángel Rodríguez 21st, Ricky Cardús 23rd, Axel Pons, who also crashed, 25th and Elena Rosell 32nd.
