Toni Bou wins the Japan Grand Prix of the Trial World Championship
Rider Toni Bou remains unstoppable in the Trial World Championship, and has secured victory at the Japan Grand Prix, marking his fifth consecutive win.
Toni Bou has taken the victory at the Japan Grand Prix of the Outdoor Trial World Championship. Without a doubt, the champion remains unstoppable; these past weeks it seems no one can match the Repsol Montesa Honda rider, who adds another win to his tally.
After six rounds contested, Bou has now secured 5 out of 6 wins with this victory, which are truly outstanding numbers, and all five have come consecutively. The form shown by the Catalan in these latest rounds of the Trial World Championship is impressive, as he leads with a 29-point advantage over the runner-up, Jeroni Fajardo.
Bou led the first of the two laps of the course, and then had to fight until the very last second. Today the challenge was tougher than yesterday’s in Japan. In the end, a single-point advantage over Albert Cabestany allowed the Repsol rider to add another win. The third place went to Takahisa Fujinami, who finished just 4 points behind his teammate.
The Japanese rider, who mathematically kept his chances of second place alive until the final moment, achieved his goal of celebrating a podium in front of his home crowd. He was able to stand on the podium in his own country, in front of his people, with a good result, alongside the winners.
Completing the top 5 were Jeroni Fajardo in 4th and Adam Raga in 5th. In the overall standings, Bou dominates with a 25-point lead, followed by Fajardo in 2nd, Cabestany in 3rd, Raga in 4th and Fujinami in 5th. Next up is the Spanish round, taking place on June 16 and 17 in Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba).
Statements from Toni Bou:
Honda has done a fantastic job and made enormous efforts for us, so there is nothing better than achieving a double victory in his country as a thank-you. I feel very, very happy to have achieved it.
Today was considerably more complicated than yesterday, as the result was not decided until the last section. It has been a perfect weekend that allowed us to close the first half of the Championship with an almost unbeatable record. Our motivation is at its peak and we will keep working to maintain this pace until the end.
