Toni Bou is crowned World Champion of Outdoor Trial
Rider Toni Bou has been crowned World Champion of Outdoor Trial after his victory at the Italian round, undoubtedly a great day for the Repsol team.
Rider Toni Bou has won his sixth World Outdoor Trial Championship in Italy. The Catalan continues to post incredible numbers in his record, undoubtedly forging his legend further and matching the achievements of a great like Dougie Lampkin.
So Bou remains unstoppable. Adding his 6 outdoor World titles to the six he has in indoor, Bou completes 12 world titles won by the Repsol rider. The great champion will arrive today at Terminal 1 of Barcelona’s El Prat Airport at 13:55 from Milan.
The victory he secured yesterday at the Italian Grand Prix has made Bou crowned for the sixth time in a row as the top man in Outdoor Trial, with two intense rounds of the outdoor discipline still to come, having conceded only two wins out of the 11 available, and finishing those two rounds in 2nd and 4th. These results have allowed him to clinch the title with a 50-point overall lead over second and third place, Albert Cabestany and Jeroni Fajardo, respectively.
Behind him was Takahisa Fujinami, so the Repsol riders have filled the places of honour on the podium, with two points fewer than his teammate and one point fewer than third place, Albert Cabestany. Closing the top 5 are Adam Raga with 46 points and James Dabill with 50 points in fifth position.
The overall standings show Bou with 210 points, followed by Cabestany with 160 points, and the podium place for Fajardo tied with Cabestany on 160 points, 50 points behind the champion.
Statements from Toni Bou:
Winning the title again makes me very happy, and doing it with another victory and another accolade for Montesa fills me up even more. It’s been a fantastic year, with many wins that reward the work we are doing. Six titles in the Outdoor World Championship and another six in Indoor. Right now I’m not thinking about how far we can go; I’m trying to enjoy this very intense moment. Today has been a difficult day, since the leg injury is still affecting me; however, the final result has been excellent, both for me and for the team. We could not ask for more.
