Tom Sykes takes the SBK Superpole at Misano with Checa 2nd and Smrz 3rd
Rider Tom Sykes has taken the World Superbike Superpole pole position at Misano. The Kawasaki Racing Team rider was very strong and set the best lap time with a 1:55.197.
Sykes drew on all his experience at the San Marino track to secure the front-row spot ahead of tomorrow’s Superbike race. The Kawasaki rider had to overcome the track conditions, as the surface was wet and he had to take it very carefully.
The circuit dried out little by little, and the riders were able to find more feeling with the layout, Sykes among them, who took his first pole aboard the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
For his part, Carlos Checa remains among the frontrunners, setting the second-best time in the Superpole and eager to face this sixth round of the season.
Completing the front row of the grid are Jakub Smrz in third and Marco Melandri in fourth.
It was a complicated session with many crashes, including one by Leon Haslam, who fortunately suffered no physical consequences. Troy Corser, meanwhile, finally went out on track and set sixth place despite the pain from his crash yesterday at Misano.
Two very exciting races await us at Misano.
