The World Motocross Championship kicks off this weekend in Qatar
The World Motocross Championship kicks off this weekend in style with a historic event in Qatar, where we will get to see all the specialists in action under the Qatari floodlights, so expectation is at its peak for Cairoli and Herlings, and of course for Barragán and Butrón.
This weekend the 2013 Motocross World Championship gets underway at Losail (Qatar), where the starting signal will be given to a very exciting MX season, with two riders who will represent us, José Antonio Butrón and Jonathan Barragán.
Moreover, this event is not only important because it is the first of the season, but also because it is the first MXGP race to be held in the Middle East, and of course the first Grand Prix of this discipline to be contested under the floodlights and with the superfinal format. As if that were not enough, another thing we are really looking forward to seeing is the presence of Livia Lancelot in the MX2 category, becoming the second woman to take part in a World Motocross Championship round after Mariana Balbi in 2009.
In the MX1 category we will see how the great champion, the man to beat, Antonio Cairoli fares, who seems very excited about this first round, the new developments and the floodlights. Although the Italian will not be alone, the rest of the grid will fight to try to beat the KTM rider, among them Clement Desalle, who was runner-up last season. Another contender likely to cause a lot of trouble is Steven Frossard, who is back with great determination after the injury he suffered in 2012, so watch out for the Yamaha rider who is coming for everything.
Meanwhile, in MX2, Jeffrey Herlings is ready to defend his crown, his red plate on the KTM, although he has even higher aspirations, as he is eager to compete in the superfinal against the MX1 riders, but he knows it will be difficult to be in the top 3. Furthermore, he will not be alone; even though some riders have moved up to MX1, there are still many in the category who will keep giving him a hard time, such as Jordi Tixier, Jake Nicholls, Christophe Charlier, among others.
Free practice sessions will be held today at 15:00 (Spanish time), while the timed training sessions will be at 20:00 (Spanish time) and the heats on Sunday. The Superfinal will be at 21:10 Spanish time.
Maximum interest.
