The 24 Hours of Montjuïc at the Motorcycle Museum

The 24 Hours at Montjuïc was one of the legendary races in the city of Barcelona until 1986, so don't miss the lovely tribute at the Motorcycle Museum.

Yesterday the Motorcycle Museum unveiled a truly fascinating exhibition: the opening of a temporary display dedicated to the “24 Hours of Montjuïc”. One of the most legendary races in Catalonia, which is still held today, though now as the Frigo 24 Hours of Motorcycling at the Circuit de Catalunya.

With this exhibition a lovely tribute is paid to one of the races that draws the most spectators to the Catalan track, with the editions from 1955 to 1986, when it was held at Montjuïc, being particularly significant. Specifically, around twenty motorcycles that took part in some of its 32 editions are on display, along with photos, trophies, posters and a great many objects.Visitors will be able to see this exhibition for a full year, so don’t let the chance pass to enjoy this great exhibition and all the memories of a great race. In addition, you’ll be able to see around twenty motorcycles that took part in it, including machines such as the Montesa Brio 90 from 1955, the Rieju 175 from 1956 and the Lube-NSU Max from 1957. A Bultaco from 1972, ridden by Benjamín Grau, who holds the record for victories with a total of 7, and also for appearances with 19 starts, also catches the eye.

Visitors can also see a photographic journey through the entire history of the 24 Hours, as well as trophies, documentation and a multitude of objects related to the race, showing both its good, fun and interesting side and its most tragic side, namely the fatal accident of Domingo Parés, which in 1986 brought an end to the urban competition.

Statements by Cristina Soler, Director of the Museu de la Moto:

The exhibition is a summary of the 32 editions of the 24 Hours of Montjuïc organised by the Peña Motorista Barcelona, and aims to explain not only the history of the circuit and its sporting side, but above all the reasons that made this race such a legendary event and so closely linked to the city of Barcelona. Our wish is to recall the peculiar characteristics of the layout and to convey what it represented socially for so many years.

    1. Hola Sebas,
Prueba a ver en RTVE, quizás en su zona de vídeos a la carta tenga algún documental o vídeo, sino pregunta en el museo de la moto de Barcelona, a lo mejor ponen a la venta alguna filmografía.

      Saludos.
