Sykes the fastest in the SBK test at Motorland Aragón
Several teams from the World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock Championships have spent these days testing at the Motorland Aragón Circuit, preparing for what will be the second round of the 2013 season.
On Tuesday, three days of testing began at the Motorland Aragón Circuit for some teams and riders from the World Superbike, Supersport and Superstock Championships, who will race at that same track in roughly a week for the season’s second round.
Yesterday marked the end of this preview of the SBK season’s second round at Motorland Aragón, where we saw the participants making the most of the time to fine-tune their machines, preparing the settings needed to face these races.
In total, 15 teams took part in the tests, of which 5 were Superbike teams, 5 were Supersport teams and another 5 were Superstock1000 and Superstock600 teams, with a total of 28 riders. The teams present were, starting with Team Pedercini (with riders Alexander Lundh and Federico Sandi), FIXI Crescent Suzuki (with riders Leon Camier and Jules Cluzel), Ducati Alstare (with Matteo Baiocco), Ten Kate (with riders Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam) and Kawasaki Racing Team (with riders Tom Sykes and Loris Baz). From the Supersport category, the teams present were Intermoto (with rider Luca Scassa), Prorace (with Gabor Talmacsi), Yaknich Motorsport (with riders Sam Lowes and Vladimir Leonov), DMC Kawasaki (with riders Kev Coghlan and Vladimir Ivanov) and Ten Kate (with riders Michael Van den Mark and Lorenzo Zanetti).
As for the riders in the two Superstock classes (both 1000 and 600), the riders present during the tests were Sylvain Barrier, Greg Gildenhuys, Federico Dittadi, Leandro Tati Mercado, Lorenzo Salvadori, Alessandro Andreozzi, Nicolo Canepa, Eddie La Marra, Alexey Ivanov, Bastien Chesaux and David MacFadden.
Regarding the times that the teams have been providing, it seems the British rider Tom Sykes has been the fastest over these three days. Although these are private tests and the lap times are not official, the Kawasaki runner-up reportedly set a time of 1:57.7, while the second fastest was Leon Camier with a 1:58.0 aboard his Suzuki. Third was Jules Cluzel, with a time of 1:59.1. In Supersport, the best was Sam Lowes with a 2:01.7, followed by Kevin Coghlan and Michael Van der Mark.
It is also worth noting that Carlos Checa has made a visit. Although it had already been announced that the local rider would not be at the controls of his Ducati, the number 7 did not want to miss the chance to stop by and say hello.
Next week is the real action, don’t miss it. Go to Motorland Aragón and enjoy the Superbikes live.
