Superpole for Max Biaggi at the SBK in Brno
Rider Max Biaggi has taken pole position for the World Superbike Championship at the Brno circuit. The Italian continues to show that he knows the Czech track perfectly and that he has a great pace there, as demonstrated in his previous appearances.
The Aprilia rider set a 1:58.580 on the Czech track, the fastest time after the three pole sessions. It was not easy, though, as his rivals made things difficult for the Italian.
The first pole session eliminated Leon Haslam, Noriyuki Haga, Lorenzo Lanzi and Matteo Baiocco, while in the second session Ayrton Badovini, Sylvain Guintoli, Mark Aitchison and Maxime Berger fell by the wayside.
Finally came the moment to contest the final pole shootout between the eight fastest riders of the session, who in this case were Max Biaggi, Marco Melandri, Michel Fabrizio, Carlos Checa, Jakub Smrz, Eugene Laverty, Tom Sykes and Leon Camier.
There was not much of a fight to be honest, as Biaggi took his warm-up lap and on the next one set that stunning time. He was fired up and showed it on track, setting a 1:58.580.
The Spanish riders lined up in 3rd place for Checa, 17th for Xaus and 19th for Lascorz.
Tomorrow we have a most exciting race ahead at the Brno circuit; surely Checa will try to stop Biaggi at all costs on his favourite track.
