Sofuoglu and Morais pleased with their Supersport test at Cheste

Kawasaki riders Kenan Sofuoglu and Sheridan Morais have spent two days on the Valencian track giving their all on their machines ahead of the 2012 World Supersport Championship, before the official test at Phillip Island begins.

Riders Kenan Sofuoglu and Sheridan Morais of the Kawasaki DeltaFin Team have completed two days of training to prepare for the 2012 World Supersport Championship at the Cheste Circuit, so the two men on the green bikes have ridden and developed their respective machines on the Valencian track, alongside Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri for Superbikes.

Now, after these two days of testing at Cheste, they must travel to Phillip Island, where the first round of the World Supersport Championship season will take place on 26 February. Beforehand, though, they will have an official test, just like the SBK category. Conditions at the Valencian track were cold, but the atmosphere has gradually warmed up, and the Kawasaki team has worked hard. For his part, Sofuoglu managed to set a time of 1:37.0, leaving his new teammate, the newcomer, more than 0.3s behind.

Sheridan has many goals to achieve this season, but first he has to adapt and gradually reach those targets with the Kawasaki, and things are going well: he has improved his time from the first day by almost a second, which is spectacular.

Over these days he has worked hard on getting the set-up ready, and he has also had a day of suspension testing, having tried several models to choose the best option for his bikes.

For his part, one of the favourites in the category, Kenan Sofuoglu has returned home and hopes to work even harder to get the chassis ready so he can ride in the style he wants with his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.

Statements from Sofuoglu:

We have done a lot of testing on the bike because this is only the second time I’ve ridden it, so I have to work with it, as it is very different from what I used to ride. Step by step we are getting better and understanding things more all the time.

The bike has good power, very good power, and the electronics also give us an advantage. I found an interesting change to the rear shock and it is helping me make greater use of the power, so I am very happy. I’ve just come from Moto2, with light and very different bikes.

My team is working very well and very quickly to help me find the right direction with the bike. Now we go to Australia for the final test, which is the most important for me because I will see everyone there. The tyres are also different from when I raced in Supersport two seasons ago. Our lap times seem to have been fast and consistent, taking into account the cold weather conditions we had in Valencia.

I think we will have a strong start to 2012.
